Francesca Pennini / CollettivO CineticO Ferrara
Abracadabra
“Abracadabra” is a piece about disappearance. Drawing on a real-life experience – a 130-day-long experiment during which Francesca Pennini withdrew herself from the world – the project investigates what is left of a body when it is no longer visible, and how absence can become a theatrical device. The title references a performative utterance, a word that makes things happen: on stage, the voice precedes the body, evoking it and shaping it. Words, gestures and images do not represent reality; they generate it, creating a presence that appears and disappears. Exploring personal memory, fragility and transformation, the work focuses on an exposed, scarred body that disintegrates and reassembles, between loss and rebirth. “Abracadabra” blurs the boundaries between reality and imagination, striking a pact with the audience: what happens exists only when shared, before vanishing. A theatrical practice that relies on sight and hearing to make visible what is not there.
