What does the word hate mean to you? Do you hate someone or something? “[ÒDIO]” is an investigation involving people of different nationalities and cultural backgrounds, concluding Motus’s long-running research on Mary Shelley’s novel “Frankenstein (or the Modern Prometheus)”, which began in 2023. The starting point is the creature’s transformative moment, when it begins to perceive itself as irrevocably excluded from the apparent bliss of other beings, rejected solely because of its non-conforming appearance. The monster in the novel is not born; it is brought into the world by a community incapable of recognising it. In this dark mirror, now haunted by fascist and reactionary revivals, we see the reality of a system that increasingly excludes, discriminates and marginalises. “[ÒDIO]” is a documentary film, a collective text made of many voices and faces that the Motus crew followed, met and engaged with to create a narrative of reflections on the violence that pervades our world today.

Bio

Motus was founded in 1991 by Enrico Casagrande and Daniela Nicolò as a nomadic and independent company. Their cross-disciplinary work intertwines art and social activism, drawing on imagery linked to contemporary conflicts and exploring liminal themes such as identity, gender and post-humanism. The company has participated in major international festivals, combining artistic research with an extensive teaching and training programme. Over the years, it has received numerous awards, including four UBU Prizes and the Premio della Critica. In 2010 and 2020-21, the company curated Santarcangelo Festival; from 2023, it has been running Supernova in Rimini; and, in 2025, it launched the Motus Archive and opened Casa Motus.
