Studio Julian Hetzel Utrecht, The Netherlands
Workshop. Un-disciplinary practice

Studio Julian Hetzel works between theatre and visual arts, creating immersive experiences that resonate with the viewer for a long time. In this workshop, Julian Hetzel offers a glimpse of his creative universe and, together with dramaturg Miguel Angel Melgares, shares how he creates his artworks. The process centres on the paradox of “creation through destruction”: it involves trusting ideas in their raw state, finding subversive concepts and developing performative images. Hetzel’s working method is based on jamming, a form of playful experimentation following a set of principles. “Un-disciplinary practice” involves the contamination of different art forms and disciplines: this is why the workshop is open to creators and performers, actors, dancers, directors and musicians.
