Ladakh is an Indian region facing a deep process of transformation and cultural regeneration. It is constantly oscillating between its vocation to be a land of arcane traditions and the uncontrolled progress destroying the environment and alienating its inhabitants. Brave minds are working to overcome this dualism by proposing a virtuous mediation: preserving their identity without shutting out the rest of the world while valuing the incentives of modernity that do not imply an anthropological mutation. Can we, as Westerners, learn from this social, economic and cultural laboratory that is Ladakh today?
