Someone Like Me

Kharkiv, Ukraine

“Someone Like Me” is a physical performance about the journey of a disembodied person through the bodies of others. Through their muscles, movements, habits and feelings, the creature learns the experiences of people endangered by war who, day after day, face fear and find ways to resist it. Their physical condition and movements reflect their stress, pain, sadness, survival and fighting skills, but also pleasure and humour. The performance is based on a series of interviews with Ukrainians of different professions, genders and ages, from 6 to 90 years old. Nina Khyzhna – at Santarcangelo Festival with the support of the European Festivals Fund for Emerging Artists – EFFEA and in collaboration with SPRING Performing Arts Festival in Utrecht and the Berliner Theatertreffen – translates into body language everyday statements and actions of the heroes and heroines involved in the project. Despite their differences, their bodies and experiences can be shared, heard and understood. Because we are all in danger, and we are becoming a collective body that transforms and learns to adapt to a bizarre reality.
