Asia Giannelli, who just graduated from the Bologna Fine Arts Academy, is staging her first performance work in the workshop founded in 1916 by Luigi Giorgetti, carried on after the Second World War by his son Alfonso. Beside the main activity of metalwork, it was also the place of clandestine meetings of the anti-fascist Comitato di Liberazione Nazionale. Paolo Bassi, artist’s grandfather, a former ninety-year-old worker at Acciaierie di Piombino, also participated in fights against fascism. In Asia’s work, his story emerges from a grouchy character that hides his affections; alcohol, cigarettes, a house unchanged over time, a video camera and a little girl, daughter of the artist’s sister: all of this, in an intimate space, provides a cross-section of a period in Italian history that is leaving us behind.
