In November choreographer and dancer Giovanfrancesco Giannini is invited to develop an artistic residency at Théâtre L’Aire Libre in St-Jacques de la Lande (France), as guest of Santarcangelo Festival within the programme of R.O.M. Residencies on the Move financed by Creative Europe. The research period, realised with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute of Paris, is dedicated to the development of the choreography for Vanitas, a collective study that involves Giovanfrancesco Giannini, Roberta Racis, Fabio Novembrini as authors and performers.

VANITAS
Vanitas is a multimedia composition for three performers. Starting from a reflection on sixteenth-century vanitas as a pictorial genre, Giovanfrancesco Giannini interrogates how the iconography of vanity is declined in the contemporary. Pictorial references from the past interact with the mechanisms of auto-fiction and identity formation which are typical of social networks. The choreography is composed: filmed and projected actions overlap with moving bodies, causing an overlapping of temporal planes.

GIOVANFRANCESCO GIANNINI
Born in 1990 in Naples, Giovanfrancesco Giannini currently works with dance companies and choreographic research projects like Alessandro Sciarroni, Cia Aiep Ariella Vidach (Milano), Cie Eco Emilio Calcagno (Parigi), Fabbrica Europa (Firenze), Cia Korper (Napoli), ZA Danceworks. His work partecipated to festivals and venues including NaoPerforming Festival, FOG Triennale performing festival, Fabbrica Europa, Romaeuropa, CCDC festival Hong Kong, Korperperformer, Santarcangelo Festival.

R.O.M – RESIDENCIES ON THE MOVE
Born in 2019, the network ROM – Residencies on the Move is the result of cooperation between six European partners: La Balsamine (Schaerbeek / Belgium), Santarcangelo Festival (Santarcangelo di Romagna / Italy), le joli collectif – Théâtre de Poche & Théâtre l’Aire Libre (Hédé – St-Jacques de la Lande / France), Le Grütli (Geneva / Switzerland), Théâtre Périscope (Québec /Canada) and Théâtre Prospero (Montréal /Canada). The network is financed by the European Union through the Creative Europe program. R.O.M brings together spaces of creation to establish a network of residencies and distribution. The network is primarily based on sharing the partners respective experiences to support artists but also to share their expertise and practices. These special moments of meeting create links between artists and institutions, providing opportunities for future collaborations.
