In honour of Raoul Casadei, who died on March 13, Santarcangelo Festival dedicates four evenings to ballo liscio (ballroom dancing), the traditional dance of Romagna. Two schools – Balla con Noi from Santarcangelo and Le Sirene Danzanti from Rimini – will tell the story of ballroom dancing and its protagonists through their students’ performances – from children to professionals – following the path and discovering the distinctive features of the two pillars of the Casadei family: Secondo – violinist, composer, inventor of liscio as well as the author of Romagna Mia – and his nephew Raoul, the innovator, the one who brought liscio to success, author of Ciao Mare and many other songs still resounding today in dance halls, local events and popular festivals throughout Italy. Sciucaren, snapping the air and cracking their whips to the rhythm of the music, will accompany the dances.
