La notte è il mio giorno preferito (The night is my favourite day) reflects on the relationship with the Other through a meditation on animals and their ecosystems. The performance takes inspiration from the practice outlined by Baptiste Morizot in the essay Sur la piste animale, which proposes the exercise of following the trails crossed by wild animals, attempting to borrow their gaze and imagining their potential actions. “Following the trails – the author writes – means investigating other living beings’ art of inhabiting, the society of plants, the cosmopolitan microfauna of the soil, the relationship they have with each other and with us: their conflicts and alliances with the way humans use territories. Not focusing on beings, but relationships”. Animals and plants, organic and inorganic matter merge in the dark space of the nocturnal forest; landslides and calls break the silence. Signals and mysterious perceptive instruments, inspired by different species, constitute the connective tissue. This forest is neither virgin nor idealised: it is “technonatural”, enclosing and transforming the traces left by its inhabitants. The title La notte è il mio giorno preferito is taken from a letter by Emily Dickinson; it refers to darkness as a space of simultaneous absence and presence of animals, a place of intuition and encounter with otherness.

BIO
Annamaria Ajmone is a dancer and choreographer. Her research centres on the body as malleable matter, capable of transforming spaces into places. Her creative collaborations allow her to embrace different imaginaries and visions. She presented her works internationally at various performing arts festivals, museums and art galleries. She also collaborates with other artists, including Cristina Kristal Rizzo, Industria Indipendente and Futur Immoral. With Sara Leghissa, she coordinates Nobody’s Indiscipline, a sharing platform for artistic practices. She is an associate artist of Triennale Milano 2021-24.
