I’ll do, I’ll do, I’ll do
“I’ll do, I’ll do, I’ll” do stems from Dewey Dell’s research around a ubiquitous body: at once visible, present in the real world, and absent, as it is present in an invisible, non-real world. A source of inspiration was the reading of Carlo Ginzburg’s Storia notturna, which investigates cases of (alleged) witchcraft of people accused and interrogated by the Holy Inquisition. Behind the image of the satanic, anthropophagic, magical and violent sabbath, it is possible to glimpse the distorted echo of an ecstatic cult dominated by a mysterious night goddess of many names and connected to a ceremony for the fertility of the soil. Possession is often considered as the visitation of a divine entity among human beings, whereas ecstasy is a journey of celestial ascension or infernal descent of the human soul out of the body. From this concept of a body “in spirit”, of a soul that abandons the body to fly to remote places, comes the idea of a choreography weaving the threads of an imagined sabbath.
Dewey Dell is a dance and performing arts group – composed by Teodora Castellucci, Agata Castellucci, Vito Matera, in collaboration with the musician Demetrio Castellucci – active since 2006 and whose research is inspired by art history, the animal kingdom and anthropological themes. The collective has produced the following works, presented in various international contexts: “à elle vide”, “KIN KEEN KING”, “Baldassarre”, “Cinquanta Urlanti Quaranta Ruggenti Sessanta Stridenti”, “Grave”, “Marzo”, “Trasmissione Verticale”, “Sleep Technique – A Response to the Cave Chauvet Pont d’Arc”, “Deriva Traversa”, the diptych “I Am Within & I Am Without”, “Hamlet” and “I’ll do, I’ll do, I’ll do”.
