Born mute, cinema gained sound in 1927 and, from that moment on, actors acquired the word and objects began to make noise. Alongside the voice and sound effects, music took on a leading role – to accompany, drive and even manipulate the emotions of the spectators. Under the stars of Piazza Ganganelli, musicals, generational cult films, biographies of real or imaginary musicians, road movies and silent films with live music. Nine films which are a ‘must see’, but above all, a ‘must listen’.
