Who are we, those who are looking?
At what do we direct our gaze?
What do our eyes neglect?
Behind every gaze there is always an embodied author, a precise collocation within the hierarchy of power and especially privilege, the quintessential blind spot. With the support of theoretical and critical studies on the posthuman feminist performing scene and both queer and feminist readings, Call Monica wants to challenge and briefly upset a part of the realm of daily experiences taken for granted. Call Monica is an investigation on the gaze as a cultural construct and a vector of power. It is the repositioning of an axe, a constant renegotiation, an interference, an unshakeable heterogeneity. It is against nature, a contamination, an archive of bodily scores, a rejection of projectuality in favour of listening, presence, vigilance and willingness towards what happens. It is resistance.
BIO
Call Monica was born within the Master’s degree in Theatre and Performing Arts at Iuav University in Venice, after a workshop organised by Motus. The project focuses on the multiplicity of the gaze as a receiver and projector of information and the responsibilities of one’s own subjective and shared vision.
